Gustavo Miranda Continues Today with the Concert Series of Beethoven Piano Sonatas
D.S.R., El Mercurio
"Gustavo Miranda (1991) is a magnificent pianist, an essential one in contemporary Chilean musical life. He is not only a virtuoso, but an artist capable of approaching each score from a different point of view, to the point that even the most well-known works sound new in his hands." These are words that the critic Juan Antonio Muñoz wrote when referring to Miranda's performance of a set of Beethoven sonatas in Las Condes towards the end of last year.
The series of the complete piano sonatas by this musician from Bonn, announced by Miranda last October, continues today with a challenging program, including the "Pastoral", Opus 28, No. 15, in D major; the sonata Opus 10, No. 1, known as "Petite pathétique", to culminate the program with the very popular sonata of "Les adieux", Opus 81, No. 26, in E-flat (Teatro Carabineros, Antonio Varas 1690, corner Vasconia. Miranda began his piano studies at the Universidad Católica Music Institute as a child and has been a three-time winner of the Claudio Arrau International Piano Competition. He won first place in the advanced level category at age 14. He was then awarded one of the few scholarships to study at the Juilliard School of Music. His stay in the United States was also complemented by the Amigos del Municipal for eight years. He obtained a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Music under the direction of professors Robert McDonald and Julian Martin.
The latter described him "as the best student of a very good generation at the school" and with "a performance marked by unusual maturity, depth of understanding... and (exceptional) communication ability." After his studies, Miranda began a successful tour of numerous venues in the United States, which was interrupted by the pandemic.
